Whats the chance the mayor will get his head out of his rear end and get you guys staffing levels that would be equal to the amount of work you guys do? Perhaps a few buildings burning down will be the trick! Maybe some of the liberals in the ghetto should use the power of their voices to put more men on the line!

Can we please raise the standards at least before we increase our staffing. I'd rather work with a handful of guys that know their $hit, and don't have to be constantly told what to do, then have 40 imbosols bumping into each other, like a Chinese Fire Drill!

One of the biggest problems is the bosses don't want to be bosses. Thats when everything goes down hill.
Starting from the top.
Some great firefighters and some really bad bosses.
What's even worse then some Bosses not wanting to be Bosses is the fact that we have a shitload of firefighters who don't want to be firefighters. How many Day laborers are we up to now? Lets keep worrying about our B-Jobs and put our Firefighting Career on the back burner. Some Brotherhood we got! What a friggin joke of a Dept. from the Bottom up to the Top!
How long are we gonna put up with all this crap?? The membership is the first to blame including me, I also understand the Chiefs Atlanta visit was paid by the City again.
What is going on here?
Someone help me with this, New York State has mandated a safety law concerning ropes.Forget the laws interpation for a second, one it is clear that the employer supply the ropes, the training, and its issue. Why in the world would local 107 now have to pay for the training, Whats next, we pay for fuel, gloves, boots?
This department for all its talk does not care for our safety. This is another example of a total lack of leadership, and our membership out of control. I wonder do the members making this so hard for the union, fight the Chief as hard on this issue, NO.
Give me a break already with the ropes, would ya please! Their just another piece of equipment that will be issued to the guys and not checked at the beginning of each tour, like everything else. Maybe we can begin by worrying as much about our SCBA's and Portables as these friggin bailout bags. We got enough guys already who bail and they don't even have ropes! If your so concerned about your Safety, use your clothing allowance to buy a rope and harness, instead of a blackberry or new laptop!
First the clothing allowance is for Clothing not a safety device to be issued by the dept., two the statement of guys not checking their equipment is very general and I for one check my gear and equipment everyday, we should be making the agruement that the ropes are another example of "When Departments Go Wild", to beat up other guys on this job is wrong and if your an officer your the example of your product. Happy 4th. to all.

So there's a new Commish which is great, but the Chief that gave away the rescue is still a Chief. Still capable of making bad decisions at the risk to the lives of the firefighters and the public?
How about thinking positive, attacking each other is killing us. Yes, there are numerous problems but lets give our new Commish some time and see if something, anything, can start in a new direction. Where were at now any progress is a plus. And I would really like to see those that call us shitheads use their real name, why not?
The new union president is who? Not that it matters lets face it the union has left the guys to fend for themselves anyway. Maybe things will change.

Yep, Newro finally got a clue, but with only 1 of 4 truck companies in service there gonna be working alot in the "Vern. Were a tragedy waiting to happen. No noise from the union or the members, these guys just dont care
I would just like to ask how your union lets the city get away with you guys only having one truck in service. How dangerous for yourselves are you guys going to let it get before you do something. Get a backbone for christ sake!
Your comment is correct, but I dont know if you on our job or not but I'll tell you this. We have been let down by many sources, and after awhile and in our case, a long while you just say fuck it why should I piss in the wind. The many internal battles in the end will only leave a long lasting impression ( A BAD ONE ).

Hey guys , understand its not the union's problem to fix this mess, its the city's. This union has tried everything, the city has NEVER made a step in a positive direction to at least start to address this issue.

Hey Jloftus, I don't think you get it when it comes to MV not being called for mutual aid the other day. Its not because your department is undermanned, Its because of your departments manning MV is not being called. You know the stuff thats been in the papers lately. Departments would rather wait for a Department thats 20 minutes away then have MV go to their firehouse or go into their citizens homes. It comes down to security.
